My name is Shazia Hoq, and I'm running for Montebello City Council.

I came to America from Bangladesh at a young age with a dream of building a better future through hard work, opportunity, and service. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Lalmatia College in Dhaka, then an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from Los Angeles Valley College, and pursued a Psychology degree at California State University Channel Islands.

For the past 20 years, I've served as President of Sarah & Brother Inc., a California retail business. Running that business taught me what it takes to create jobs, manage resources responsibly, and support local businesses through good times and hard ones.

I've also served two terms as Vice President of the Los Angeles Wilshire Center Koreatown Neighborhood Council, working alongside elected officials, nonprofits, and residents on economic development, public safety, housing, and homelessness solutions.

Beyond business and civic service, I'm an actress and host. That work has connected me to communities across Los Angeles, and I've been honored to receive recognition from the City of Los Angeles and other organizations for it. I've spent much of my time working alongside nonprofit organizations, supporting people who need it most.
